With the World Health Organisation stating that 40% of the population is deficient in iron, I thought that maybe I should write a review on a product that’s available in over 65 countries, is natural, and comes from a company that’s been around for more than 100 years!

I have used Floradix, an Iron food supplement on many occasions myself…I’m one of these ladies who’s been told I have low iron counts since my early 20’s.

A healthy balanced diet is always best, no need to be a doctor to know that. It wasn’t working for me though, and even putting my diet under scrutiny and using my fitness pal to monitor and improve my intakes with iron-rich foods was challenging.

The type of iron supplements you can buy in the chemists can also be challenging and I found some leading brands very difficult to stomach, having a lot of bloating and constipation as a side effect.

Floradix, which can be found in all health food shops, comes in tablet format and liquid format. If you search youtube for example you will be able to find loads of reviews for the liquid version but none for the tablets!

So what’s the difference? Liquid iron vs tablet form.

When you go to the health food store 9 out of 10 salespeople will tell you the only difference between the 2 is that the liquid is absorbed easier. I myself tend to agree with this as I have experience taking the liquid and then getting my iron levels tested at the doctors and my counts were climbing. I then switched to the tablet format as it was a cheaper alternative and the values were falling in my follow-up blood test. However, I find it’s important to note here that I have issues with my tummy and therefore probably suffer from poor absorption as a consequence.

Absorption however isn’t the only difference between the liquid and tablet format. The tablets also contain folic acid which the liquid does not. Did the manufacturers possibly develop the tablet form to be more suitable for pregnant women or women wishing to become pregnant in the near future? Possibly!

The boxes almost look identical and it’s really only under very detailed scrutiny that you start to pick out the differences between the two.
