Did you notice it too? Here’s what it might mean.

Medium has applied gold stars to people's profile pictures. Rumour has it that it’s just a sign that you are a paid member but there doesn’t seem to be an official announcement on it.

So if like me you logged on and thought wow! What’s this? Did I get curated, am I suddenly a top writer, or have I been chosen for something special? I’m afraid that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Personally, I do love a gold star though. Remember getting all those gold stars in school? And how proud your parents were? Much better than some sort of official tick in my mind!

Were you a gold star junkie in school, did you crave praise and appreciation? What’s the coolest thing you received a gold star for? Let’s reminisce in the comments.

And if you don’t have a gold star, and the rumors turn out to be true, you can always sign up to be a paid member through my link and get a star all of your own!
